Remedial sports massage is a deep tissue massage of the superficial layers of muscle and connective tissues to treat injuries, provide pain relief, enhance function and promote relaxation and well-being. The massage process removes metabolic waste and can be used to increase or decrease muscle tone by manipulating the body with pressure. Over time, it can also be used to shorten or lengthen muscles and it also aids the recovery process.

Regular massage can be used to treat minor injuries before they develop and can also remodel scar tissue where required. Improvement to complete recovery can sometimes be seen in as little as 1-3 sessions. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, skin, joints, ligaments, other connective tissues and even lymphatic vessels. By targeting these tissues, we can stimulate improved blood flow which in turn delivers increased oxygen supplies to these areas. This is key to aiding tissue recovery.

The type of treatment received will depend upon the injury and will be decided as part of a consultation before treatment begins. If you are suffering from a continued ache, back pain, or have suffered a sporting injury, remedial sports massage could benefit you.
